Monthly Lesson Series

Beginner Swing

In Swing 1 and Swing 2, you’ll learn the basic movements and tools you’ll need to start navigating the social dance floor. If you’re looking to try the other dance role, we recommend starting here. Swing 1 and 2 also great for experienced dancers looking to revisit their basics! These classes alternate each month, so they are always available. We recommend taking both of these classes at least once to get you ready for Level 3!

Swing 1: 6-Count Swing (East Coast Swing)

This 4 week progressive series will introduce the basics of 6-count swing (East Coast Swing). You’ll be turning and side passing at a comfortable social dancing tempo. You’ll need this class and Swing 2 to continue to the Intermediate Swing classes. No experience or partner is required.

Swing 2: 8-Count Swing (Lindy Hop)

This 4 week progressive series will introduce the basics of 8-count swing (Lindy Hop). You’ll learn the signature moves including the swing out, the lindy circle, and the send out. We’ll get you started moving like a Lindy Hopper at a comfortable social dancing tempo. You’ll need this class and Swing 1 to continue to the Intermediate Swing classes. You can take 1 and 2 in whatever sequence is most convenient, but we recommend taking Swing 1 first. No experience or partner is required.

Intermediate Swing & Special Topics

Swing 3: Lindy Hop Beyond the Fundamentals

This progressive series will go beyond the fundamentals of 8 and 6 count swing and introduce musicality, and styling accents. You will learn how to transition between the basic swing patterns while varying rhythm, momentum, and texture at an intermediate level. Students should have a solid understanding of the 6-count basics, and have taken both Swing 1 & Swing 2 courses. There are so many topics to cover, and the content in this class will change regularly. We encourage you to take it over and over to build your skills! No partner is required.

Special topics classes are offered in alternate months to Swing 3 for a variety of intermediate topics.

Charleston

This progressive series will introduce you to the basics and to different variations of Charleston! You’ll learn the basic Charleston, hand-to-hand, tandem, and transitions to other swing styles. We’ll get you cutting a rug like the Great Gatsby. Each week will build upon the last and introduce you to new variations on the Charleston basic and intermediate steps. Some swing dancing experience will help make this easier, but is not required!

Balboa

Balboa – a completely separate dance to “six-count swing” or Lindy Hop – is
known as “a dancer’s dance,” focusing on musicality, connection, and feeling. This 4 week progressive series will introduce Balboa basics. You’ll learn the single time basic, send-out (toss-out), and Lollies! This class will build solid Balboa fundamentals – no prior Balboa knowledge is necessary and, as always, no partner is required.
